A few weeks ago my sister, her friend, and I took a day trip to Częstochowa. Częstochowa is a city in Southern Poland and is about 1h 45 minutes away from Kraków, where I live. When we arrived it was freezing but man, the beautiful sights made it worthwhile. We were very lucky in that it was a beautiful day with clear skies which made walking around very pleasant. The main purpose of our visit was to go to the Jasna Góra. This is a shrine to the Virgin Mary and one of the places of pilgrimages in Poland. We arrived and the first thing I noticed was how beautiful it was.
The grounds are huge and there is so much to see. We spent a good while just walking around taking in all of the sights. The image of The Black Madonna of Częstochowa can be found here and, although I didn’t get a photo, I did get a small glimpse of it. There are a few different places here that you can go to Mass and there are plenty of Mass times so you should be able to go to one regardless of what time you arrive or plan to leave.
When we went there weren’t as many people as I expected but there were still a fair few. However, there is so much to see and do that you never get the feeling of being in a large crowd of people. However, this might change in the Summer time when the weather is a bit warmer. My sister and I explored the grounds and also went into a few exhibitions. One of these was the museum and the other was the Arsenal. I can definitely recommend both. Neither are very big but they have a lot of amazing history and it’s really interesting to read about.
After we had spent a few hours here we went off to find some food before we headed off back to Kraków. It was such a wonderful day where I learnt a lot, saw a lot, and had a good time. If you would like to find out more information about this pilgrimage sight you can visit their website which will give you all of the information you might want to know.
