This past weekend it was my birthday and to celebrate I had a small tea party with a few friends. Now, as I do love a good themed party, this year I chose to channel my inner Lady and throw a Downton Abbey inspired tea party.
I asked all of my guests to dress up in something inspired by Downton Abbey. If you haven’t watched the show before then go and do it…after you have read this post ;)My friends really made an effort and everyone looked absolutely amazing!
For today I am not going to focus on who wore what, but rather on who ate what. I baked and bought a few treats that I thought would fit perfectly with the theme.
There were sandwiches, cut into triangles (of course) and they were very simple. I only wanted cheese and cucumber as I didn’t want anything to be too messy. We also had mini sausage rolls, mini cheese puffs, spinach and feta puffs, and a quiche. I figured that people might want something savoury before we moved onto the sweeter treats.
The sweet treats are my favourite and we had quite a selection. We had little cubes of cake, as well as chocolate chip biscuits. There were pastry cups FILLED with caramel, vegan brownies, and meringues…these were a must have!
I also put little smarties into some tea cups as they were too cute not to use but too small for tea.
For my cake I made a vanilla one and decorated it with pink icing and pearls. I really love this cake and I think that it turned out really nicely!
I raided my granny’s tea sets and found a selection of different cups and saucers. They were not all the same and I really think that it added to the feel. Obviously in the era of Downton Abbey everything would have matched but I had to put my spin on it somehow 😉
So this is my Downton Abbey inspired tea party. Do you ever throw themed parties? Have you thrown a Downton Abbey one before? Let me know in the comments below!
