Why I Hate Posts About Leaving Trends Behind

leaving-trends-behind-min

I honestly could not think of a good title for this post so even the one that I chose does not quite fit. As we have started a new year there are loads of posts floating around the internet about trends that should stay in 2016 and, I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty mad. You should probably grab a cuppa and sit down because this is going to be a rant and a half.

A new year does not automatically mean that everything you have done in the previous year should fly out of the window; and that stays true for fashion/beauty as well. Why can I not do certain makeup techniques just because it is 2017? Are these trends just for a year or two?

What about fashion? Fashions change over the years and some things become more popular, I get that. But to write a post all about clothes and shoes that you should not be seen in during 2017 is not cool. You are basically shaming people that still choose to wear that particular item or style of clothing.

There are people who cannot afford to buy new makeup and clothes yearly just to keep up with the ‘trends’. Apart from that, there are people who actually like a particular style. They should feel free to wear it without having people on the internet deciding that they’re ‘so last year.’

You should wear what you want. If you like something, wear it. If you like that makeup trend from 3 years ago, do it! Don’t let anyone make you feel bad about yourself because you still like trends from the 90’s. Just do you, and be happy.

Now maybe I am too sensitive but it just bothers me that these posts seem to try and dictate what is acceptable for people to wear, on their body or on their face. Maybe those posts are just a bit of fun and you may think that I am overreacting. That is okay. After all, this is the internet and everyone is entitled to their own opinion 😉

What do you think of posts like these? Also, how do you feel about ranty posts in general? Let me know in the comments below!

Love,

Kirsty x

I haven’t followed a trend in forever because seriously, what does actually change every year anyway? I know what looks good on me and what doesn’t, what I like and what I don’t, if it’s not trendy who cares xx

    Hi Kirsty,
I agree with you regarding this matter. I don’t follow fashion especially regarding clothes, i mean who can afford these days to wear clothes that are always the ‘trend’? I feel you should wear clothes that you are feeling comfortable and it suits your figure. The same with beauty products why always go for more expensive products while you can be elegant with cheaper brands. Expensive isn’t always better in my opinion. Thank you for this ranting post of yours.

Hi! Absolutely! I wear what I want to, on my body and on my face. And if it isn’t ‘trendy’ then too bad! Thank you for your comment 🙂 x

and there is the issue around all that stuff … going to landfill and the cost to the environment.
    And the sweatshop labour. Sigh.

Trend or not, I will prefer to wear something that suits my body shape and makes me feel/look good no matter if it was trendy this year or 3 years ago! The important this is you do you! x

I so agree with you Kirsty. If you like a trend and include it in your routine then it becomes a day-to-day reflex of yours so you should be allowed to keep it. I mean just wear what you love and feel confortable with. Really enjoyed reading this post. You’ve the same name as my blogging partner, which I think is cool ahah xx Corinne from Corinne & Kirsty
