People around the world have been confined to their homes. While some countries have tighter restrictions than others the majority of us are forced to stay indoors for a certain period of time. Now I have absolutely no problem with this but it can lead to boredom. Not everyone has loads of free time but if you do, here are some things that you can do to hopefully relieve some of that boredom.
Clean and DIY
Now I don’t want to be one of THOSE people but this really is a great time to clean your house. And I mean REALLY clean. Unpack your cupboards, clean every room in your house from top to bottom, really give your house a good clean. This is a job that can take some time so now that you have it, why not take full advantage?
You know all of those chores that you said you would get to “when you had time?” Well hello, it’s time calling and you should answer. This is the perfect time to get to all of those small (or big) DIY tasks around the house. You’re at home anyway so you might as well.
Learn A Skill
If you are indoors with nothing to do you can always use this time to use a new skill. There are a lot of skills and things that you can learn that don’t require a lot of equipment so there are many things that you can learn from the comfort of your lounge! Why not try something out?
Bake and Cook
Yes, I know that apparently everyone and their Aunty has been making banana bread during this time (I say apparently because everyone is talking about it but I have only seen about 2 people making it??), however this is a great time to bake or cook something new. If there has ever been something that you wanted to try out this is a great time to do so. All of those recipe books gathering dust? Well it’s their time to shine. You could try a new recipe every day or once every few days even, but this is a great time to try something new!
I often hear people saying, “I wish I had more time to read.” Well, now you do. Pick up a book, find a nice, comfortable spot and get reading. Finally make a dent in all of those unread books that you’ve bought but never read. If you have someone to bring you copious amounts of warm drinks while you’re reading then so much the better!
I am aware that we might not all be able to leave the house but you can still do many exercises indoors. Personally I am a big fan of YouTube for this. I love doing dance workouts and, recently, I found walking workouts that I can do in my lounge! Exercise is great because a lot of us are getting much less exercise than we used to and even doing just one short workout a day helps! I know I feel better even if I just do a walking workout!
Even though some of us can’t be with our family and our friends during this time we can call them. Video call or phone call, it doesn’t matter. Just speaking to someone else helps a lot. You can also send voice notes to people. This helps because you’re hearing someone else’s voice so it gives you the feeling of being less alone.
Build A Puzzle
If you have puzzles at home this is a great opportunity to build them! Too often I get bored and forget about this activity. I love puzzles and I actually have two that I am going to start building next week. I am so excited and I think I will even post my progress on Instagram.
Let your creative side shine during this time! Draw something, and if you say “well I can’t draw” then why not use this time to learn? The same goes for painting. Colouring in is not only relaxing, it is a lot of fun. If you have a colouring book then break it out and start colouring. I like to colour in while drinking a huge mug of tea!
Watch A Concert or A Show
You can do this without having to leave your home. A lot of musicians and comedians are putting on shows from their living rooms. This is a great way to have some entertainment while you’re sitting in your tracksuit eating crisps. It’s fun, it’s an activity, and a lot of the time it’s free.
Have A Picnic
If you have a garden or a balcony this is a great place to have a picnic but if you don’t then you can also have one indoors. Put a blanket and some cushions on the floor, open a window, and…it’s almost like being outside. You can even do this if you are alone. It’s something different and something to do instead of the boring “eat at the table” routine.
And you know what? If you want to spend all day watching Netflix in your pyjamas instead of doing other things that’s fine too. This is a scary and anxious time for all of us and we all need to find the best way to cope FOR OURSELVES. Don’t let anyone make you feel like a failure because of how you choose to spend this time.
How are you spending your time indoors? What things are you doing? Are you still working? Let me know in the comments!
