This was the apple crumble 5 minutes after it had cooled down enough for eating.

I know we’ve all read those recipes where the author gives their life story before giving you the recipe. I try not to do that because I know how annoying it can be. However, if you’re looking for a quick and easy recipe for a delicious homemade apple crumble then you’re in the right place.

Servings: 4

Ingredients:

For the crumble:
150g flour
75g butter (I used room temperature)
Pinch of salt

The beauty of this dessert is that you don’t have to layer the slices perfectly – it can be rustic!

For the apple filling:
500g apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
22g honey
3/4 t cinnamon
1t vanilla essence (measure with your heart)
2t flour

Step-by-Step Apple Crumble Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
2. Add the apples, honey, cinnamon, vanilla essence, and flour into a bowl and mix gently.
3. Place the apple filling into a greased baking dish.
4. In another bowl, mix the flour and salt with the butter. Rub it in with your fingers until the mixture is coarse (you’re not trying to make a dough – it should be rough and it can have some lumps). If you need to add some water to help get more clumps then add 1T at a time.
5. Bake for 30 minutes until the topping has browned and the apples are soft.

It will look a little smaller after baking because the apples lose some water – this is normal!

The cooking time for the apple crumble will vary, so keep checking from 25 minutes until you’re happy with the outcome!

Tips:
– Don’t add apples all the way to the top, leave a little room.
– If the filling is bubbling and thickened then you’re on the right track!
– You can add nuts to the topping for a little bit of extra crunch.

I know a lot of you are going into Autumn at the moment so this is the perfect dessert to make. It’s quick, easy, and uses minimal ingredients. No doubt you have most of these in your pantry already! And for my friends in the Southern Hemisphere – there’s never a bad time for an apple crumble!
