Solo, Anxious, and Utterly Enchanted by Granada’s Magic

The centre was full of these hearts – it was so pretty!

Granada. A city so nice I had to visit twice. This year I went to Spain for the first time and… spoiler alert, I loved it. Let’s focus on the first when I went on a solo trip to Granada – I did way more during that trip.

I always feel my prettiest in Spain.

Before you read this, you should know that I do not solo travel. I get anxious going to buy groceries at an unknown store so travelling to a different country by myself for a holiday is unheard of. I know I moved halfway across the world by myself but that’s completely different. However, I wanted to go to Spain and, because I have a friend in Granada, I knew it was a safe space.

One of the prettiest places to see on my solo trip to Granada.

I flew to Málaga (ridiculously early) and then took a bus to Granada. I stayed in the cutest apartment in the centre and I could have lived there forever.

It took me two days to find the courage to go and buy groceries but after that I was unstoppable (okay, that might be a slight exaggeration). I knew when I was there I would have to try my very best to speak Spanish; so I did. Trust me when I say that I spoke the very basics, but I did ask a man at a shop to help me and I was very proud of myself afterwards. I don’t even like asking in English!

I walked around the city every single day and I kept finding new things to see. Granada is honestly such a beautiful city and I had the best time there! Every morning I woke up early and walked around for a couple of hours. Also, there were so many places to go to find beautiful lookout points. It did mean climbing up loads of hills but the view was worth it.

The weather was really good! I went in February so it was still winter, but I had sunshine almost every day without intense heat. The apartment was cold during the day and although there was a heater some days it did not do much!

I walked on this street every day on my solo trip to Granada.

I’d normally go out again in the afternoon/evening, just to get out of the apartment again. I went out for dinner, drinks, (not by myself) and to this place on top of the city where you can see the entire city before you. Seeing the city at night was such an experience!

Going on a solo trip to Granada made me the prettiest I have ever been!

Overall I loved the trip so much. Solo travel still isn’t something that I’m super comfortable with (I like to talk about my adventures, and I also feel more comfortable going to attractions with someone else) but it was definitely worth taking a solo trip to Granada to get to explore this beautiful place.

It’s definitely a city I’d go back to and one that I would recommend to others! What city in Spain should I visit next?
