Surely this can’t be true? There are things that I do not like about Christmas?! Well yes…and no. See, Christmas (as we should all know by now) is my favourite time of the year. However, there are a few things that bother me about the way people treat Christmas. As we know I love a bit of a rant now and then so here are some things that bother me about people and Christmas.
Christmas Decorations in October
Shops are starting to sell Christmas decorations earlier and earlier. Can someone please explain why we are getting Christmas decorations in the shops before Halloween? Let’s just get one thing out of the way before we start another. At least wait until November before selling them. Who needs Christmas decorations in October anyway?!
Happy Holidays
Please do not say this to me. If you do not celebrate Christmas and you feel as though saying Merry Christmas to me is against your beliefs then rather do not say anything. What is happy holidays anyway? Have a happy holiday? But you don’t say that to me for my other holidays during the year. So why now? So many people are trying to be politically correct by saying this but I don’t have an issue wishing my friends of other religions for their special days. I also do not get offended when I walk into a shop and the shop has huge sign boards wishing them. So why can we not say Merry Christmas? This is something that really bothers me and I just felt as though something needed to be said.
It Really is the Thought that Counts
If you get a gift for Christmas and you don’t particularly like it or it wasn’t exactly what you asked for then please do not complain. Maybe that is all that the other person could afford or maybe they genuinely thought that you would love it. There are people who do not get any gifts. At all. They simply cannot afford to swap gifts or have no one that cares enough about them to get one for them. Let’s remember that it is the thought that counts this season.
Premature Christmas Trees
Why are people putting their Christmas trees up in November? A full (almost) month before Christmas. Okay so if you want to put yours up that early that is fine and your business. But why are shops doing it? I do not want to walk into a shop in November and see a Christmas tree. It makes it less special when Christmas is actually near because I’ve been seeing it for the past month!
The Reason for the Season
Now this one bothers me because I feel as though people are forgetting the real reason for Christmas. Christmas is not about the food, and presents, and going on holiday. Christmas is about the birth of Jesus; and all of those other things? They are really just a big old bonus. I love the festivities around this time of the year but let’s just remember the real reason we actually celebrate.
So there are some of the things that bother me. I am not trying to be rude or disrespectful to anybody. I am simply sharing my thoughts and opinions with you.
I also did a post where I shared what I love about Christmas.
Are there any of these that you agree with? Or disagree with? Let me know in the comments below!
Love,
Kirsty x
This may be controversial but I hare Christmas dinner! Funny post x
Thank you! 🙂
I feel that I could have written this! However, when someone says Merry Christmas to me, I say it back. I tend to say Happy Holidays because of Christmas and New Years. Totally on board with Christmas setups in October and November! Can we at have a Happy Halloween and Happy Thanksgiving before Christmas. Great Post!
Ah right, I suppose the holiday bit could mean New Year as well! But really, things have an order. Christmas does NOT come before Halloween! hah x
This is such an honest and well written post! I look forward to reading more of your blog in the future ? – http://www.teaisawishyourheartmakes.wordpress.com
Thank you so much! 🙂 x
This is an interesting post as it is not usually written about. I totally agree that the Christmas decorations are being put up too early. It is beginning to look like the stores are using Christmas to make more profit!

haha I too love Halloween x
Thanks for sharing, Kirstie! I definitely agree that seeing Christmas decorations up when Halloween has only just ended is little annoying – I want to save all the festive cheer for December so that it’s super special!
