Essence has these mystery boxes that I’ve only ever seen on the Takealot website but that are such good value for money! You get five mystery makeup products but you have no idea what’s going to be inside. It’s difficult to know how much these boxes are usually sold for because the price seems to change regularly. I’ve definitely seen them for R250 though. I bought mine on special so it cost way less. However, even at R250 it would have been worth the cost.
While it’s always risky to buy something when you don’t know what’s inside, this box seemed as though it had been curated especially for me. I loved everything and everything was absolutely something I would use – although not everything was something I’d necessarily buy for myself.
Eyelighting Crayon
This can be used as an eyeshadow base or as an accent for your inner eyes. It’s really pretty and pretty subtle.
Eyeshadow Brush
Essence make really good makeup brushes and this one is a really good size!
Eyeshadow Palette: Pumpkins Pretty Please!
These shades are some of my favourites to wear. This palette alone is worth almost the entire price of the box. Essence makeup is also a favourite of mine.
Lip Tint
The shade? Raspberry Charm. The colour? Gorgeous. The application? Been too scared to try.
Mattifying Stone Roller
I’ve seen these online and always been curious. Rolling this on your face gives your face a more matte appearance and it can be reused – just wash it after use. You can also apply it over makeup (although I haven’t tried that yet).
Overall I was super happy with this box. Like I said, it’s a gamble because you don’t know what you’re going to get, but you also get more than the box is worth. It’s also a great gift idea if you’re stuck on what to get for someone!
