Sometimes you need to spend time alone and go on a solo date, not because you don’t like other people but because you need time to recharge. Okay, sometimes it’s also because you don’t like other people. But, I digress. Spending time alone doesn’t always mean just lying on the couch watching TV (although it can). It also means spending time doing something fun, or different, or just treating yourself. There are so many ways that you can take yourself on a solo date and I’m going to give you a few ideas to get started.

Arts and Crafts

Sometimes you just want to do something crafty – draw, paint, make soap. There are literally hundreds of things that you could make. It’s something that’s likely a bit different than your every day routine but also something you can do by yourself. Plus, art is subjective (apparently) so you can’t go wrong.

Book a Trip

If you’re in Europe then this is so much easier! You can literally fly to another country and back on the same day. However, no matter where you live, you can take a solo trip to a new city, or an overnight trip to a new place. Anywhere that you’ve never been and will allow you to explore. Exploring by yourself can be scary but it also means that you can do what you want, when you want.

Coffee Date

This doesn’t mean grab a coffee and go about your daily chores. It means sit in a coffee shop, get a coffee and maybe a slice of cake. Take a book with you and just sit and relax. Spend time people watching, reading, writing – anything you find relaxing.

Do your Favourite Things

Plan a day from start to finish where you only do your favourite things. Have your favourite food for breakfast, choose your favourite restaurant for lunch. Drive to the beach, or go for a long walk – choose everything that makes you happy and simply have the best day!

Go to the Library

Almost every library has a place where you can sit and read books. They’re free (which is always a bonus), it’s quiet, and talking is actually discouraged. This also gives you a great opportunity to read books without having to shell out a small fortune. I love books, but man are they expensive.

Learn a Skill

Ever wanted to become a potter? Maybe you’ve always dreamed of being the next Chopin. Whatever it is, take a class and learn a skill. While this is also something fun to do with friends or a partner it’s also way less distracting alone and allows you to interact more with others.

Make a Treat

Is there a meal or some kind of baked good that you’ve been dying to learn to make? This is a great activity to try. peesonally I love being on the kitchen by myself. It’s peaceful, relaxing, and way easier to experiment.

Spa Day

Not only is this incredibly relaxing but it’s such a simple thing to do alone because you don’t need to speak to anyone. Now, I understand that spas can be expensive but that doesn’t stop you from creating one in the comfort of your own home. Just turn your phone off, grab your supplies and prepare for a day (or a few hours) of relaxed bliss.

Visit a Museum

When you go to museums with other people sometimes you don’t get to do it your way. They get bored or they want to read every single word while you just want to browse. Going alone means that it’s all on your terms. If you’re over it, you can just leave. Want to spend 10 minutes reading all about something? You can!

Watch a Movie

Now I know this might contradict what I said at the beginning but hear me out. Don’t just sit down and watch a movie. Order your favourite food, grab the tastiest drink, make the cosiest environment that you can. Treat it like an activity rather than something you just do after a long day.

Sometimes spending time alone is scary, sometimes it’s not fun at all, but a solo date is always necessary at some point. I could make a list with about a hundred more ideas but…let’s just start with this list and see how it goes.
